I will be finishing up my series on prayer this weekend at both services. As always I have learned so much about prayer this last six weeks. We have talked about five keys: Righteousness, Faith, God’s Will, Waiting and Forgiveness. The ultimate key is to ASK. It is more than seeking our daily provision. It is seeking God’s favor. He says: “I will throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.” (See Malachi 3) It is believing in faith that God is anxious to hear our prayers and grant them. It is taking Jesus at His word when He says: “I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.” John 14:12-14 We are God’s children and He has a plan to take us into the “promise land” if we want to go.

THE WEDNESDAY CLASS IS POWERFUL!…

We are being challenged to dream again. It is entitled: “Prosperous Soul Stewardship Series.” We have a video presentation and worksheets. The concepts being taught are life-changing. They are teaching us about true “stewardship” and the blessings God has with that. We start with music at 6:30 and the class starts at 7:00 pm. An offering will be taken to cover expenses.

that will make it easier to remember. Invite people to fill the seats. Remember we give away a gift to new comers and those who bring them.

we had a gentleman stop in this week to give us a check for $250 to help with the cost of The Christian Journal. He said that he and his wife moved her about a year ago from Louisiana. They pick up our paper at Food 4 Less and enjoy the positive articles and inspiration. It is so nice to know that people are finding the paper and enjoying it. We also received a letter from an inmate this week that was encouraging. He seems to really like the paper. Notice: “Dear readers. How do you feed a starving person for $20 a year? By sponsoring a subscription of The Christian Journal for an inmate. The starving dark dead soul of an inmate can be forever fed (by the Word and the Spirit of God) if he/she find the One who gives life. Through The Christian Journal many have found that source. With your $20 a year, you can help feed many more. Please, don’t forget to feed the starving (Spiritually) whom are in prisons.”

GOD’S FOOD PANTRY…

we received a letter from the Walker Fund stating that we didn’t get the grant we were asking for to help expand the pantry. We had asked for $25,000. We are using another grant of $4800 from the West Family Foundation to cover costs of food this year, but that will run out before the year is out. Please keep this ministry and Tina and crew in your prayers. They are doing a great job.

NEW CLASS HERE ON WEDNESDAY AND FRIDAY MORNINGS (2)…

from 10-12 noon. The class is being taught by the team of Will and Christie. They are teaching from “Mandate 2 Motivated.” They are asking folks from the community who are mandated to attend recovery treatment to come to this class to find their own motivation to make the changes they need. Pastor Harold and I approved this class and are thankful we have a facility that can be used most all week to serve in so many ways.

POP OPEN CARDS…

just sent another 200 to someone new in Georgia and 400 to a previous customer in Illinois this week. A Christian bookstore in Latham, New York is interested in getting the cards to sell in their store.

CELEBRATE RECOVERY…

.another record breaking night at CR this week. We had over 60 people packed into our sanctuary. The atmosphere was almost electric. People are excited about changing their lives with Christ. We are getting more and more folk from Rogue Retreat coming! Dena is our #1 recruiter. Thursdays at 6:30 pm.

BOOK STORE…

sales are up the last few weeks. Seems to be a real hunger in folk for something positive and inspiring to read.

ROGUE RETREAT IS PROGRESSING…

we have wanted to have a good way to track and follow the progress of those who come to Rogue Retreat. Heather has been working on this and will report to the board this week. She had done a wonderful job that will help carry us into new levels of service and reporting. We can now easily see the progress of each individual from where they are when they come into our program to where they are at 3, 6, 9 and more months down the road. God is doing miracles.

VISION FOR SET FREE (2)…

we started 15 years ago following Isaiah 61. It is time to renew our vision and see what God is doing in and around us. It is time to begin dreaming again. Let’s dust off the brain cells and look into the future.

THIS PLACE IS BUSY…

we are using our ministry center building every day and almost every night. That is good stewardship.

I have personally learned so much this past five weeks on prayer.  Seems that everything I’ve been led to talk about I’ve had to practice in my own life lately!  I heard that whatever we receive in learning at church, from a CD, a video, on the radio, etc. we will be tested on very quickly. It is as if the Holy Spirit wants to move it from just head knowledge to an experience we won’t forget.  This week the Lord has led me to another key we must remember if we want to see our prayers make a difference.  That is forgiveness.  Jesus had some strong words about this.  We will look at it today.

THANKS FOR HOLDING ME AND MY FAMILY UP IN PRAYER…

I so appreciate the commitment of our people to prayer.  I can feel your prayers working in my life and in my family.  I know that when we as a church family pray that something good and powerful happens.  I hesitate to say much here, but if you hear any rumors about my family I’d appreciate you talking to me or Debi to get the information you need to see if you are hearing truth or rumors.  The enemy’s purpose is to cause factions and dissension among God’s people.  If what you ever hear about anyone causes you to get resentful or judgmental it probably isn’t coming from God.  The Holy Spirit creates unity, not disunity.

Karen Dayspring who has attended here in the past is starting a homeless feed and ministry on Monday afternoons at 3:30 pm at the band shell in Lithia Park.  She is looking for some volunteers to help her.  She especially wants some pop open cards donated if possible.  You can contact her at (541) 326-6233.

SOLES 4 SOULS MINISTRY (3)…

is collecting shoes for a ministry outreach to native Americans in Arizona and those needing shoes in this area.  Kennard is our point man for this with Set Free.  If you have a pair or more of good shoes you want to donate drop them off here at the church in the next couple of weeks.

SOZO BY APPOINTMENT…

I continue to hear from those who have had these sessions in the past at how much it helped them move past where there were. It was a door opening for them into new levels of their spiritual walk.  I know that Toti and her team are ready and anxious to serve you. THE CHRISTIAN JOURNAL…

it is an amazing thing to see 17,000 papers come in one day and in a couple of days they are all gone!  We have a great crew who are working hard at getting the papers out and finding new locations.  I keep hearing that we need more and more papers to fill the racks.  People seem to be taking more. I expect to go to 18,000 papers soon.

GOD’S FOOD PANTRY…

Tina’s team met this week and talked about how her dream is to give each family enough food for five days when they come.  The team doesn’t hold back and gives out what they have each week. It is a test of faith.  Our food bill is now over $500 each month and growing.

perhaps the hardest one of the four so far. WAIT. I know I have a hard time waiting for God to act. I’m in a hurry most of the time. But, we are told that those who “wait on the Lord” can expect good things. Today and tomorrow we will be looking at that and review some stories in the Old Testament where God’s people had to wait for the amazing promises of God. What has God promised you that you need to wait for?

the last class went so well that some have been asking about another class. I will be leading the class the week of May 6-11 each night from 5-6 pm. A key is making a decision to let God take the addiction before you start the first night. Coming each night creates a powerful experience.

today we are looking at a second key to powerful and effective prayers. We find the answer in James 5, Mark 11 and Hebrews 11. We see it being acted out in so many of the miracle stories of Jesus. The answer seems almost too simple, yet I see so many struggle to accept this key that opens the door to amazing things happening in our Christian walks. Last week we decided that a “righteous” person has powerful and effective prayers. for the second week in a row the crowd was fairly good that came to hear Pastor Harold share a teaching and then they joined together in a fellowship meal. Harold says he wants to teach on the basics on Sunday evenings.

Tina reports that we served 114 Households and 297 individuals during March. We average about $5 per box for a household so that comes to about $570 in food expenses. Gives you an idea. If you donate $10 to the food pantry each month that will serve two families.

our donations for April are down some. Please pray about your giving to Set Free and give as the Lord directs. It takes all of us giving our share to cover the expenses. If you need an offering envelope that are at the greeter’s table in the foyer or we can mail them to anyone who wants to send their donation in the mail.

DESIREE HAS REPLACED HAVEN IN CHILD CARE…

Desiree will be here from 10 through the end of the service in the children’s room serving the younger children. Children over 10 to 12 and up can sit with the parents in the service if possible.

the deacons had Justin paint the cabinets in there this week. It makes the entire room look better. Justin also painted the sea green wall in the children’s ministry room to help the room look better.

ROGUE RETREAT ALMOST FULL…

we are filling the last of the new apartments on Manzanita in Central Point this next two weeks and then we will be full. That is 42 apartments! Things have really changed since we started with a men’s recovery house on South Holly in 1999. I’m so humbled to see the large crowd here every Monday night for our life skills training group class. To think that God allows us to minister and serve 42 family units! Are you helping this ministry? Remember we are looking for donors who will give $ a week to Rogue Retreat. Donation envelopes are in the foyer at the greeters desk.

We can even get frustrated at prayer and have little to do with it. But seems like Jesus is anxious for us to learn how to pray effectively. He talks about it in the sermon on the mount. we continue to be humbled and honored that the Lord allows us the ability to put together, print and distribute this paper each month. We are going on 12 years this coming June. We continue to get great letters from inmates who receive the paper each month. Our donors are growing. Many give each month. Gift subscriptions are growing. Please keep praying for this ministry and help us find new places to distribute the paper.

another full house this week. God continues to bring people to this program who are looking for hope and encouragement in their daily choices for their new lives. So many people can benefit from this weekly program. Pray for it and invite people to come on Thursdays at 6:30 pm.

we’ve all heard that we can’t out give God, yet few of us have tried. I’m hearing more and more great stories from people who are taking God seriously about tithing and trusting for Him to bless their giving. The generosity of a few really committed folk keep this ministry center up and running. Can you imagine what will happen when the few who give become the many? We will be able to move out of this location into a larger location!

HAVEN’S LAST WEEK…

her work obligations are taking her away from Set Free’s child care on Saturday mornings. She has been faithful to us for over five years! See deserves our praise and thanks! Write her an encouragement card.

we are looking at Jesus Christ and what He accomplished on the cross for all humanity. Using the acronym NAIL we are focusing on what He tells us that He has already taken care of. Our tendency is to take these things back off the cross to try to work them out ourselves rather than take Jesus at His Word that He has accomplished them. He did say on the cross “It is Finished.” What does that apply to? We will take a look today and when we understand the freedom that Jesus has given us we will be tempted to say that it is just too good to be true!

it is called: “Balancing Life’s Demands…Biblical Priorities For a Busy Life.” Worship starts at 6:30 and the class starts at 7:00 pm. There is a video presentation and then some discussion on the lesson.

NEW WEDNESDAY NIGHT CLASS STARTS ON MAY 2…

entitled: “Prosperous Soul Stewardship Series.” This seven-week class will look at 1. Releasing The Dreamer 2. Trouble With Money 3. Spirit of Poverty 4. Roots of Trust 5. Bound in Spirit 6. Spirit of Mammon and 7. Dominion. We will have a video presentation and worksheets.

NEW WORSHIP SERVICE STARTS SUNDAY…

our new service is at 11:30 am on Sunday mornings. Debi and I are committed to see what God has in mind as we reach out to a new group of people. I have the core values outlined in the new bulletin that will be handed out at the service. I will be sharing the same message at the Saturday morning and Sunday morning service. We will be giving out a free gift to newcomers and those who brought them at the service just like we are doing now at Set Free.

NEW LIFE IS STARTING A NEW WORSHIP SERVICE…

Pastor Harold is starting a new fellowship and worship service on Sunday nights starting this Easter Sunday at 5:00 pm. There will be a fellowship supper and a teaching. Harold wants to be able to serve people who can’t come to services during the day due to work obligations.

THE CHRISTIAN JOURNAL…

came off the press on Monday and they are all out an being picked up by readers this weekend. We had a gentleman stop by on Thursday to donate $20 to help an inmate get the paper. He said God told him to come in and donate. It’s great to know God is working behind the scenes to keep this paper strong. We had a client at the food pantry on Tuesday ask about more papers to be delivered to a small store he works at. He says that the papers go too fast and more people need to get one.

GOD’S FOOD PANTRY…

there are always hungry people who need food. Our doors are open every Tuesday from 11-2 pm to serve families. Lots of food comes in and goes out each week. Everyone is treated with respect and value. Any donations of canned and/or dry foods is appreciated. Funds to purchase food through ACCESS is also appreciated. It costs us about $500 a month to keep this going.

POP OPEN CARDS…

we sent 200 cards to a woman in New York this week. Someone gave her a card and she liked it so much that she called our number on the back of the card to order some! We have the cards available in our bookstore to purchase today.

this week. Almost every chair was filled and the spirit was great. Many new faces and many younger people looking for a new life apart from their past lives of drug and alcohol abuse. Come Thursday at 6:30 to find support and encouragement.

OUR DEACONS MET THIS WEEK …

and talked about the fixer upper needs around our ministry home. They are planning to do more painting to spruce up the place. Watch as the kitchen cabinets get painted along with the ceilings in many of the rooms and the hallway doors. We are looking to replace the floors in the kitchen and café. There will also be a cleaning day soon to get all of our tables and chairs cleaned.

YOUTH ARE GOING TO THE SILVER RING THING…

this coming Friday night, April 13. Meet at Set Free at 5:30 pm to carpool up to Grants Pass. This program talks about youth making a choice for sexual purity until they get married.

have you ever struggled with some of the things Jesus said to us about prayer and asking for things in His name that He wants to give us? I know I have read verses like: “I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.” John 14:12-14 and then I quickly backpedal to talk about God’s will and try to reason this verse away when it is very strong. Then Jesus told us in Luke 11:9,10: “So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.” Then we read how God wants to give us the desires of our hearts. He created us with those desires. He wants to fulfill them. So what stands in the way of these verses coming true in our lives? We will be looking at that today and deciding to trust that what God says He will do!

40 DAYS OF SPIRITUAL EMPOWERMENT ENDS TODAY…

I do hope that you took some special time this last 40+ days to connect with God in new ways. Perhaps you dropped some habits and started some new ones. Perhaps you are now spending more quality and quantity time with God each day. May I suggest that you continue whatever you have started. Let God take you to new levels of experience with Him.

Debi and I will be starting a new worship service on Sunday mornings at 11:30 am after Harold’s service at 9:30 am. He is planning to start at 9:00 am to give us both plenty of time. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate all the positive confirmation we have both received from you and others we meet. I’ve heard of some people planning to invite friends and neighbors to this church and want to come to support us. I am grateful for that, but I’m not asking people to leave our Saturday service to help with our Sunday service. That will not be wise. Come if you want to bring someone new to worship. I’m working on a new set of core values for this new group. I will be sharing that soon.

These videos are excellently done to show the story of Matthew (verse-by-verse). You will see the Bible come alive and inspire you. I’ve been showing them in the youth class. We will see about 1/2 of the book on Friday night and the other half on Saturday afternoon. A great way to celebrate Easter weekend. Bring a friend to watch it with you.

FINANCIAL REPORT…

thanks to all who faithfully give to Set Free, New Life, Christian Journal and Rogue Retreat. Your donations really matter….every dollar. We take your giving as an honor and seek to glorify and honor our King with them. I’m hearing about some tithing their food stamps to the food pantry. Wow. That’s what faith is all about.

EARLY MORNING STUDY AND PRAYER TIME…

really makes a difference. All great Christian men and women had an early morning habit with God.

There are several places in scripture where God promises to lead us to prosperity as we dedicate ourselves to following Him with all our hearts. Think of Jesus’ comment in Matthew 6:33 where He told us to seek first the kingdom and His righteousness and all we need will be given to us. How about the promise in Jeremiah 29:11 where God says He has plans to prosper us? We read in Psalm 1 that those who choose not to walk in the way of the wicked, but to meditate on the Lord with all we have that God will plant us near ongoing nourishment and have us prosper. Then there is Psalm 25 where David talks about God leading us on His paths that lead to a prosperous life. Seems that part of the Holy Spirit’s job is to guide our steps on the path of the Lord that leads to a prosperous life. If that isn’t happening in our lives then maybe we are putting up road blocks to His leading or closing our ears to His guidance.

40 DAYS OF SPIRITUAL EMPOWERMENT CONTINUES…ONE WEEK LEFT

in our “march”ing through our 40+ days of “spiritual” fasting. Please set aside this time to intentionally spend more time with God each day. I’ve asked that we seek His presence in our study and prayer life and ask for new insights and blessings for us and this church fellowship. I hope you are intentionally reading good materials, listening to Christian music and watching programs that are uplifting. Let’s seek His blessings. And…remember to pray for God to provide a new place for us to worship and do ministry out of. We need more room!

we had a big donation of food from a private donor this week. It was so helpful. Tina and crew continue to serve from 30-50 families a week. They work hard! Be sure to thank a volunteer.

ROGUE RETREAT…

the board met this week and passed a new requirement/consequence policy that will tighten things up a bit. We are so honored to be serving so many families. We are seeing some good success as people progress in building their lives. We see many coming to church and other support ministries like CR.

The Father send Jesus to this earth to fulfill a mission to rescue mankind. Jesus went to the cross to fulfill that mission. Jesus returned to the Father, but promised His followers that He would send the Holy Spirit to live inside us. He later said that He and the Father would live with us. In essence the Holy Spirit is the Father and Jesus living inside us. It is the Holy Spirit’s job to watch over us and lead us in the paths that God directs for us. God promises to prosper us if we stay connected to Him and follow His ways. We are going to be looking at that today and talking about why some prosper and others languish.

so much food goes through our doors each week. We get a big load in on Monday and it disappears on Tuesday. Steve Gallatin is serving a light lunch each week for those who come. Dave Schmidt and Eddie Vick put in new shelving in our shed this week to better prepare us for more food. I’ve heard of some people starting to “tithe” their food stamps and give the food to the pantry. Great idea!

ROGUE RETREAT…

so hard to let people go who are not able to follow the program. Lost someone this week. It broke our hearts. We are interviewing some for some openings and it isn’t an easy task to try to discern who will take the opportunity seriously and follow the program requirements. Just wish we were able to help more.

DARYL ANDERST IS STEPPING DOWN AS LEADER OF CELEBRATE RECOVERY…

after eight years Daryl is handing the leadership responsibilities over to a couple of other men. Nathan Brobst and Steve Gallatin are now leading out. We have a strong team of leaders who work hard at CR. Please pass along your thanks to Daryl for a job well done. Under his leadership CR grew much stronger and has become a great program for those seeking help in their recovery from all types of addictions and dysfunctional behavior.
