Set Free Update for 7/7/12

15 YEARS OLD…

when Debi and I decided to start Set Free Christian Fellowship on July 5, 1997 we had no idea what lay ahead. It was a huge step of faith for us to leave a denomination with all the structure, regular pay and benefits to totally trust God to provide for us and the new fellowship. There were miracles all along the way that encouraged us to keep going and keep trusting. Ministry began to happen in so many ways. The congregation has expanded and retracted many times over the years, but there has always been a very committed core of believers holding things together. It is truly amazing how God has used this ministry to create various other ministries along the way that have reached out and served literally hundreds of folk. On this 15th anniversary we give all the glory to God and thank Him for trusting us to work with and for His “children” in Medford. We ASK that He continue to bless Set Free and allow us to work with Him in what He is doing in His Kingdom work in the Rogue Valley.

WHAT IS GOD UP TO?…

last week I shared that the Mail Tribune story went all over the country. We have continued to get reports and positive phone calls. Most are thanking us from standing up for the “least of these” as the Bible talks about. I pray that the Lord uses this experience to grow us and encourage the church at large.

THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT IS….PEACE…

as we continue to take a close look at the Fruit of the Spirit we come to the third one mentioned…peace. We are discovering that there is a direct purpose behind the order. Love has to be first. Without it nothing else matters. When we accept God’s unconditional love and learn to give it back to Him and to His people we can choose joy no matter what is taking place around us on a daily basis. Joy is a choice. Now, peace automatically follows joy. Peace has nothing to do with our circumstances. It has to do with believing Jesus. He told us that He gave us His peace. We can choose to practice it or not. True peace comes when we stop trying to understand what is going on in and around our lives. Rather, we trust God and practice His peace.

SET FREE TURNS 15 THIS COMING WEEK!…

to celebrate we will turn this week’s service (Saturday, July 7) into a time of testimonies of what God has done in our lives through Set Free. I’m inviting anyone who has been touched by Set Free through the years to come and share their experience. Hopefully there will be current and past attenders in this service. Tonight we will have a birthday party for Set Free. Cake, ice cream, BBQ, movie starting at 7:00 pm. Let’s thank God for what He has done these past 15 years.

CARING OPPORTUNITIES:

Micah Maeda’s Memorial Service is this Monday, July 9 at 11:00 am at Conger Morris in Central Point. Micah was Judy King’s son and Kail Maeda’s brother.

THE CHRISTIAN JOURNAL…

the July issue on Forgiveness printed Tuesday and was distributed this week. Inmate subscriptions went out yesterday all over the US. Now on to the August issue on “Imitate” from Ephesians 5:1,2. Perhaps you will want to write an article for it. Remember 500 word limit. I need articles by August 20. Send to info@thechristianjournal.org

POP OPEN CARDS…

had many more exciting experiences this week as I handed them out to people I met. I had to laugh several times as the person opened the card and found a verse that correlated with what we had been talking about. Truly Holy Spirit moments.

GOD’S FOOD PANTRY…

We are still needing more dependable volunteers to help on Tuesdays. Interested? Call Dave 621-5826, Tina 778-5243. We had a smaller crowd this week, but it is the first of the month when most people have their food stamps. But we did have a few homeless folks come into the office later in the week looking for something to eat. We try to never turn anyone away without trying to find some form of help for them.

CELEBRATE RECOVERY…

there is such a good spirit on Thursday nights. My only frustration is that more people seeking recovery don’t make this a priority during the week. I talk to so many who are struggling to put their lives together yet they don’t come to CR. Those who come regularly seem to have God’s power to get to a new level in their recovery. Please come and bring others on Thursday nights at 6:30 pm here.

I WAS TALKING TO GOD LAST WEEK ABOUT THE MINISTRY (2)…

He reminded me that it is so much more than a worship service on Saturday morning or Sunday morning. When you think of all the people who come through the doors for all that happens here each week there are over 300. I thanked God that we are able to serve these people. It is an honor to be used by God.

BOOK STORE (3)…

we keep adding new things and they are going fast. Debi is doing a great job. REMINDER: No IOU’s. We are finding some things being taken without payment. No matter how good your intentions are we can’t allow this. Also, we can’t hold items for you to come get later. Check out our new Set Free and New Life hats! First come first go. Only $8. Debi has items on the shelves by cost.

FINANCIAL REPORT…

thank you for giving. This ministry has been one of faith for 15 years. Every month God has come through. He has continued to use you!
